Mrs M’Gown, of Morton Mains, is spending a holiday in Dunedin.

Mrs John Finch, who has been visiting Wellington and Christchurch, has returned to her home in Dunedin.

Mrs Norman Talbot, of Christchurch, has returned home from a short visit to Dunedin. -V- * * Misses E. and C. Howden. of Timaru, have bought a car and are at present touring in England with Mrs Battershill, of Wellington. v -v- * Miss Trixie Wood, who has been visiting Christchurch, passed through Wellington on Saturday on her way to Auckland. #* $ . Mrs Percy Macassey, who has been the guest of her mother, Mrs J. F. M. Fraser, has returned to her home in Wellington. ♦ * * Mrs Sutton has returned to Southland and Mrs Willis to Christchurch, after staying with their sister, Mrs Fraer. of St. Clair. * * * Misses Cushla and Betty Macassey, Mrs M. E. B. Macassey and Mrs Snow, returned to Southland during the week-end after visiting Mrs J. E. Macassey, St. Clair. Mrs F. Vivian Fisher will leave with her husband, the Rev. F. Vivian Fisher, on July 2 to take up her residence in St. Mary’s Vicarage, Addington, Christchurch.

Mr and Mrs A. H. Williamson are enjoying a comprehensive round of travel of the Old Country (writes our London correspondent). They will also tour the Continent before going back to New Zealand at the end of the year.

Miss Noeline Martin has arrived at Wellington from Dunedin to join her parents, Mr and Mrs James T. Martin, who have taken up residence at “Nirvana,” Thorndon. Before leaving Dunedin, Miss Martin was the guest of honour at a number of farewell parties.

The annual ball of the dental students of the Otago University will this year be an anniversary one. For that reason it promises to be particularly successful. It will take place on Friday evening in the Concert Chamber.

Mrs A. R. Falconer gave a tea party at the Otago Women’s Club yesterday afternoon in honour of Mrs F. Vivian Fisher, who is shortly leaving to take up her residence in Christchurch. Her other guests were members of the Diocesan Council of the Mothers' Union, who were thus given an opportunity of bidding Mrs Fisher farewell.

Guests at Larnach’s Castle on Saturday evening included Mr and Mrs C. G. Frost (Christchurch). Misses G. Kirkness, H. Miller, N. Bond, J. Sagar, N. Clark, E. Stevens, K. Smith, R. Wethey, N. Sagar, J. Leslie, and N, Leslie, Messrs C. Johnson, C. Lockhart, S. MafiGibbon, G. Martin, Dickie, B. Leslie, H. Ridley. P. Jaques, D. Hardwick, Harris, and D. H. Hardwick.

At a social afternoon in the Theosophical Hall on Saturday a musical programme was contributed by Mr Alfred Walmsley and party—Mrs Morgan and Misses Litolff and Kirkham, with Mrs A. Walmsley as accompanist. Then followed a short talk on the bondage of man by his negative qualities, such as selfishness, irritability, etc., and the power of his higher self to break such chains and set the soul free. Mrs Pollard. chairwoman, thanked those taking part. The room was prettily decorated with chrysanthemums and native greenery.

The St. Clair Croquet' Club held its first social afternoon for the winter in the pavilion. Though the day was cold, a bright log fire created a cosy atmosphere and made the guests feel at home. The hostesses were members who had received trophies during the playing season. After tea, a pleasant time was spent in competitions, the winners of which were Mrs Baker, Mrs Watson, and Mrs Smith. The president (Mrs T. Fleming) thanked the hostesses for the successful afternoon they had arranged.

The St. Hilda’s Old Girls’ Association met in the Somerset Lounge of the Savoy last evening to play trump whist and generally enjoy a social occasion. Mrs A. A. Fairbairn (president of the association) received the guests, who included Miss Blackmore, Mesdames Sinclair, Bolting. Stephens. James, Gray, Miles, Gilchrist, Throp, Duthie, Wheeler. Mr and Mrs Colin R. Lowndes are recent arrivals in London (writes our correspondent). Mr Lowndes is joining his brother’s firm—Noble, Lowndes and Partners, life insurance brokers — as a junior director. Previously, after leaving Otago University, where he graduated B.A, and was awarded a University blue for boxing, Mr Lowndes went to Melbourne, and then to Sydney, being employed with the Mutual Life and Citizens’ Assurance Company, Ltd. While in Melbourne his marriage took place to Miss Zela Smith, of Dunedin. Originally of Gisborne, three members of the family—Messrs Noble F. Lowndes, R. L. Lowndes, and Colin R. Lowndes —are now actively engaged as insurance brokers. Holiday periods will be spent by Mr and Mrs Lowndes touring on the Continent.

A concert arranged by Miss Gwen Smith and held under the auspices of the Patients and Prisoners’ Aid Society was given at the Pleasant Valley Sanatorium on Saturday evening. The programme consisted of songs by Misses Roche and Smith and Messrs Pringle. Power, Inglis. and Dunbar: duels by Messrs Pringle and Inglis; elocutionary items by Mr Les Dunbar, and Miss Gwen Smith; and dances by Miss Stella M'Donald, The patients’ orchestra at Pleasant Valley also gave several wellreceived items. The accompanist was Miss Mavis M'Donald, who also gave some pianoforte items. During the evening opportunity was taken to say farewell to the matron tMiss Glynes' and to thank her for the kindly manner in which she had always received concert parties that came to entertain the patients.
