WORLD TITLE BOUT

BOXERS’ FINAL PREPARATIONS CHALLENGER CONFIDENT NEW YORK, June 20. (Received, June 21, at 6.30 p.m.) A message from Grand Beach states that James Braddock ran three miles, but cancelled his final workout in the ring before his fight with Joe Louis for the world heavyweight title on Tuesday. He attended church, following which he shook hands with scores of admirers. He will leave for Chicago to-morrow, and will be kept in seclusion until he weighs in on Tuesday. Joe Louis, the challenger, whose headquarters are at Kenosha, reduced his final work-out to two rounds with a sparring partner and then he shadow-boxed for one round. He punched the bag for a few minutes. The challenger was unable to evade many rights to the jaw, but rain prior to_ the workout resulted in a slippery and treacherous canvas. Louis, in an interview, said: I am prepared for a long fight, but it will be a short one if I can make it. A special train has been arranged to take Louis to Chicago on Tuesda&ene Tunney, a former world champion, who will witness the fight, predicted that Louis will win easily because of his youth and punching power. “Braddock,” he says is game, but he has been out of the ring for two years, and at his best he was never a great fighter.”
