DRUIDISM

The fortnightly meeting of Royal Oak Lodge was held on June 7 there being a good attendance of members and visitors. In the absence of A.D. Bro. Heaney the chair was taken by P.A. Bro. W. Hudson. The Bards' report showed continued heavy sickness among members, over £ls being passed in sick pay. Two new members were duly elected to membership and were initiated into the mysteries of Druidisrn. The installation of officers was the main event of the evening, D.P. Bro. T. Clarke being assisted in this duty by P.D.P. Bro. W. Leathley. The following officers were duly installed for the current term:—A.D.. Bro. L. M'Keich; V.A., Bro. W. Hudson; treasurer, Bro. A. Mitchell; 1.G., Bro. G. F. Murray; 0.G., Bro. B. T. Murray; A.D. Bards, Bros. J. Johnston and H. Rackley; V.A. Bards, Bros. L. Popham and J. C. Henderson; M.C., Bro. A. E. Churchill; minute secretary, Bro. W. R. Hudson. At the conclusion of the ceremony the installing officers received a very deserving vote of thanks for the efficient manner in which they had carried out their duties. Other welcome visitors were P.A. Bro. Robertson (Lily) and P.D.P. Bro. Wilson (Otago). . m _ .. , The fortnightly meeting of Pride of Mornington Lodge was held on Thursday last, A.D. Bro. Le Brun presiding over a fair attendance. An invitation from Court Excelsior A.O.F. to a card evening was accepted, as also was one from Ivanhoe Lodge. A welcome visitor was D.P. Bro. T. Clarke, who. with the assistance of P.A. Bro. Esplin, installed the lodge officers in a very efficient manner, several members speaking in complimentary terms of the D.P.'s work. Secretary Bro. Birt was called on to make a presentation to V.A. Bro. Coumbe prior to his departure from Dunedin. In doing so Bro. Birt referred to the excellent qualities of the brother and to the valuable services rendered by him to the lodge, several members endorsing his remarks. In reply Bro. Coumbe, who was received with musical honours, expressed gratification at the cordiality •and good fellowship .of the lodge members. A resolution was passed recording appreciation of the brothers services. Bro. S. C. Smith was also presented with his P.A. diploma, and m making the presentation Bro. A. E. Jelly referred to his progress and his ready assistance, both inside and out of the lodge room, in all matters affecting its welfare. Arch Druid Bro. H. J. Smaili presided over a good muster of members at the fortnightly meeting of Mistletoe Lodge No. 25, held on Tuesday last Correspondence was dealt with and sick pay amounting to £4 16s 8d was passed for payment. Officers and members of Ivanhoe Lodge attended officially for the purpose of playing for the Cribbage Shield, and were warmly welcomed. Other welcome visitors were D.P. Bro. T. Clarke (Royal Oak), P.D.P Bro. W. Leathley (Enterprise). P.D.P Bro. R. Morris' (Lily of the Valley), and P.A. Bro. Leishman (Otago Lodge). During the evening a RossStewart. Shield competition practice was held, the reorganised team giving a good performance. Routine business was quickly despatched, and the lodge adjourned for the purpose of defending the Cribbage Shield A closelycontested match resulted in Mistletoe winning by 12 games to 10. On resuming business a challenge for the shield from Royal Oak was accepted and June 29 was the date fixed for the match. The lodge decided to postpone Ihe social evening set down in the syllabus for June 29 to a later date, on nccount of the queen carnival activities in the borough. The lodge appointed two delegates to attend the meeting of the Bnll Committee.
