The memorials take many forms, the most imposing being the Soldiers’ Memorial in the Queen’s Gardens, Cargill Monument in Custom House square, the South African Fallen Soldiers’ Memorial on (he Oval, and the memorial to the Rev. Dr Burns in the Octagon. There arc memorials in several schools, some taking the form of gales and tablets, while others are in churches, cemeteries, and various public institution*.
