Friday, June 18 (Before Mr H. W. Bundle, S.M.) MOTORISTS CHARGED Owen' Smith M’Connachic, an unlicensed motor driver, was fined 10s and costs (10s). For parking a motor car between a safely zone and a footpath, William Victor Graham was fined 8s and costs (12s). George Robert Baskett, charged with failing to give way at a street intersection to traffic approaching from his right, was fined £4 10s and costs (10s) SHOPKEEPER FINED Margaret Greaney was fined 20s and costs (10s) for failing to close her shop at 1 p in. on a statutory half holiday. TRESPASS ON RACECOURSE A young man, whose name was suppressed, and for whom Mr J, G. Warrington appeared, pleaded guilty to trespassing on a racecourse.—Chief Detective Young explained that during the Forbury Trotting Club’s winter meeting the defendant, who, by reason of a certain conviction, was prohibited from attending race meetings, was observed in the inside enclosure of the course. When questioned, he told Detective Taylor that he had been granted exemption by the racing authorities but subsequent inquiries disclosed that this was not the case. Further interrogated he told the police that, having been released from probation, he thought that exemption automatically followed.—Mr Warrington said that the defendant since his conviction some years ago, had made good. He was honestly under the impression that he was permitted to bo on a racecourse, as. after being on probation for two years and a-half, ho had been released for the balance of his term.—The magistrate said the defendant might have made a mistake, and dismissed I lie information subject to the payment of court costs (12s).
