YOUNG HELPERS’ LEAGUES
The members of the Barnardo Helpers’ League at the North-East Valley School held a successful sale in the Baptist Sunday School Hall on Thursday. Children presided at their own stalls and brisk business was the order of the day. In the evening a lantern lecture was given by Mrs Acutt. In spite of the wet night there was a splendid attendance. Mrs Acutt congratulated the children on the fine way in which they had carried their sale through. A hearty vote of thanks was given the Rev. J. K. Reid for kindly lending the hall, and to Mr Benfield for operating the lantern. A lantern lecture on Dr Barnardo s Homes was given by Mrs Acutt (of London) in the Port Chalmers Presbyterian Sunday School Hall, which was kindly lent for the occasion. The Rev. J. G. Dunn presided and operated the lantern. The slides were of a varied character and gave a great insight into this gigantic organisation. Mr Pybus gave a hearty vote of thanks to the lecturer, and stated that he knew the girls’ village at Barkingside well and the fine work being done there. The meeting closed with the benediction. A small sale was arranged by members of the Barnardo' Helpers’ League of the Normal School and George Street School at the Dundas Methodist Sunday School Hall. In the evening a lantern lecture was given by Mrs Acutt. Mr West Baker kindly operated the lantern and Miss Brebner assisted at the sale. At the close a hearty vote of thanks was given to the minister for kindly-lending the hall, and to Mr West Baker and Miss Brebner for their help.
