PREVENTION OF CRUELTY TO ANIMALS
TO THE EDITOR Sir, —The monthly report of the Otago Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals states that in every case that had received investigation there appeared to be little reason for complaint, as the animals were well treated. Surely people do not complain for nothing; there must be some cause. I, myself, once reported a case of an animal which was in a shocking condition. This animal could not walk and hao eaten in a circle as far as it could reach, and had had no water for days, but in the inspector’s report it was stated that the animal was being treated by the owner. The animal was not getting any treatment whatever. This was a positive case of neglect and cruelty and yet was passed off as trifling.— I am. etc,. Fair Play. [We have referred the above letter to the society and are informed that every case is fully investigated It is suggested by the society that if " Fair Play" would forward to it particulars of the case referred to, it would supply full information concerning the investigation that was made. —Ed..
