MAGISTRATE’S COURT At a sitting of the Port Chalmers Magistrate’s Court yesterday before Mr J. R. Bartholomew, S.M., Frederick George Carter, who made a voluntary appearance, was fined 5s ’and costs (3s) for allowing a chimney to catch fire. LICENSING COMMITTEE The Chalmers Licensing Committee—Mr J. R. Bartholomew, S.M. (chairman) and Messrs T. Scollay, H. Cooke, J. D. Morgan and T. B. Wilson —met yesterday at Port Chalmers to deal with the adjourned application of Albert T. Ross, White House Hotel, Henley, for renewal of a publican’s licence. The application was adjourned at the annual meeting of flic committee to enable a report to be furnished on certain structural alterations. The chairman stated that plans of »lie alterations had been submitted showing that a considerable improvement was being effected to the premises. The was to be complimented on the manner in which the house was being modernised, and the application would be granted. PERSONAL Advice has been received that Dr L. P. Clark, a son of Mr P. Clark, of St. Leonards, who went to London last year, has passed the primary examination for the degree of F.R.C.S. Dr Clark is a graduate of Otago University.
