OFFICIAL FORECAST CONDITIONS IMPROVING The following is the official weather forecast: — The recent depression is passing away east of the Dominion, and an anticyclone of considerable intensity is approaching across the Tasman Sea, Indications are for:— Winds.—Moderate to strong southerly reaching gale force at first in some exposed positions about Cook Strait and on the east coast, but gradually decreasing. Seas. —New Zealand waters; Rough north of Farewell Spit and south of East Cape, but later decreasing, elsewhere moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea: Moderate to strong southerly winds with rather rough seas, but wind and sea moderating to-morrow. Weather.—Changeable on the cast coast and north of Kawhia, with scattered passing showers, but improving and otherwise fair; indications for fine weather in most districts during the week-end; temperatures cold, with many sharp frosts. IN NORTHERN CENTRES (Special ro Dailv Times) AUCKLAND, June 18. Fine, clear weather was experienced early in the day, and, after a period of cold, cloudy conditions, the afternoon was sunny, with mild temperatures. The wind was fresh from the southwest. The fall in the barometer readings was checked shortly after midday. and at 5 o’clock the pressure was rising steadily at 29.65 in. WELLINGTON, June 18. The weather in Wellington to-day was for the most part fair, but very cold, with a strong south-south-west wind. Light showers fell during the afternoon. The minimum temperature last night was 40.8 deg and the maximum to-day 45.3 deg. CHRISTCHURCH, June 18. An extremely cold south-westerly wind blew throughout the day, with snow on the hills.
