CLUTHA POULTRY SHOW

BIG INCREASE IN ENTRIES The annual show of the Clulha Poultry, Pigeon, and Canary Club was opened yesterday in the Band Hall, and will be continued to-day. The entries totalled 370, and the show is particularly strong in canaries and budgerigars. The total entries show an increase of 30 compared with the last show. In the open classes for poultry the chief competition is in Game and Hamburgs. In the utility classes there are 97 entries, the chief classes being the Black Minorcas, Rhode Island Reds, and White Leghorns. There is an excellent show of bantams, and an entry of 69 canaries. The judges are: Ducks, Mr R. Wilson (Invercargill); poultry, Mr J. A. Boswell (Dunedin) and Mr R. Wilson: canaries and cage birds, Mr A. H. Smith (Gore); pigeons, Mr F. Robertson (Balclutha). Mr J. Baxter (Seaward Downs) is general supervisor of the show, and Mr Andrew Wood (a former secretary, and now resident in Gisborne) judge’s steward. ‘ The officials. with Mr S. Riach as president and Mr L. Fallowfield as secretary, worked hard, and Mr R. W. Culbert made an excellent press steward.
