THE GREATEST JEWS
An international poll to determine who are the world’s 70 greatest living Jews—the “Elders of Israel”—will be undertaken by the Ivrim, Chicago, U.S.A., honour society for Jewish young men. This announcement was made recently by Ben Aronin, sponsor for the society, who said the B'nai BTith, the A.Z.A., Jewish Youth Leagues, the Zionist organisation, Young Judea, and other Jewish groups are co-operating in the poll. It is expected to take a year. To obtain a list of leading Jews on which the poll is to be based, the Jewish Youth Leagues and students of Jewish Sunday or Hebrew schools in Chicago have compiled a list of 250 names of great Jews, which will be expanded as soon as similar lists are received from other similar groups in the larger cities of the world. When the original 70 “Elders of Israel” die, new members will be elected to the group. “The Ivrim,” Mr Aronin said, “is composed of Jewish young men who have attained high scholastic standing.”
