Mr Avery Dale left for Christchurch yesterday morning by the express on the first stage of his return journey to Kenya Colony. Mr Ernie Clark, who recently flew solo from England to New Zealand, has been appointed an assistant instructor to the Canterbury Aero Club, Mr E. Spillane, formerly of Dunedin, who has been playing Rugby League football in England for the past four years, is at present on a visit to his relatives here. Mr R. O. Johnson, the well-known athlete, left yesterday for Auckland, where he has secured a business appointment. Sir Percy Sargood and Lady Sargood were passengers by the express yesterday morning on their way to Wellington. Lady Sargood. with her daughter, Mrs lan M’Killop, and family, will join the Tamaroa. en route for London. •

Mr H. L. Gibson, district railways traffic manager, left yesterday for Wellington, where he will represent the Otago section of the railways service at the opening of the new railway station.

Mr W. R. Lloyd Williams, orchard instructor for Central Otago, who has been visiting America to study fruitgrowers’ problems, has left on his return to New Zealand. The Government has appointed Mr J. Robinson as its representative on the Dunedin Metropolitan Fire Board in place of Mr J. L. Salmond, who has been the Government’s representative on the board for the past 10 years. Mr Robinson is secretary of the Dunedin Fire Brigades’ Employees' Union. The Union Airways liner Korimako left the Taieri airport at 8.15 yesterday morning for Christchurch. Blenheim. and Palmerston North with Messrs T. R. Wright and E. J. Rishworth for Christchurch, Mr Haywood for Wellington, and Messrs S. C. Sutherland and J. J. Busch for Palmerston North. The Karoro arrived from the north at 1.25 p.m. with Miss E. Dumbleton from Palmerston North and Messrs L. Bolton Moss and T. Richards from Wellington.

Mr Alvin W. de Berry, a graduate of Otago University and the holder of a dental scholarship at North Western University, Chicago, has graduated as a doctor of dental science. Dr de Berry is an old boy of the Palmerston North High School and the Otago Boys’ High School. During his post-gradu-ate course in the United States he conducted research into the relationship between dental caries and diabetes. He intends to return to New Zealand early next month, and to settle in Palmerston North.
