AMERICAN SKIERS

TO VISIT NEW ZEALAND AND AUSTRALIA TRIANGULAR CONTEST SOUGHT (From Our Own Correspondent) SYDNEY, June 10. Mr Stuart Jamieson, New South Wales delegate to the Australian Ski Federation, has announced that a team of four United States skiers from Dartmouth University (New Hampshire) will tour New Zealand and Australia within the next few months. The team, which is considered very strong, comprises Durrance, the Bradley brothers, and Laughlin. Durrance is the outstanding American downhill and slalom racer. He has held the American championships in both events, and was the outstanding American performer at the 1936 winter Olympic Games. The two Bradley brothers are wellknown Dartmouth skiers and are good performers in all four branches of the sport. Nothing, so far, is known here of the fourth member of the team, Laughlin, who comes from Connecticut.

After the Americans compete in the North and South Islands of New Zealand, it has been tentatively arx'anged that the team, after arriving in Sydney on August 9, should go immediately to Mount Buller (Victoria), where its members will compete against a Victorian side in a match during the week, August 9 to 16. This will be followed by a visit to Mount Hotham, where the interuniversity competitions between Sydney, Melbourne, and Tasmania will take place. It is at present arranged that the American team will come to New South Wales on August 23 to compete, as individuals, in the Australian championships, to be held at Charlotte Pass (Mount Kusciusko) from September 4 to September 11. During that week, the New Zealand team to compete in the interdominion match against-Australia will arrive at Kosciusko, and negotiations are now in progress to convert the Interdominion Match into a triangular contest between Australia, New Zealand and the United States. This will be subject to arrangements with the New Zealand ski authorities and the National Ski Association of America. Every effort will be made by the Australian Federation to hold a triangular match.
