UNEMPLOYED WORKERS
DUNEDIN BRANCH OF MOVEMENT A general meetings of the Dunedin branch of the National Unemployed Workers' Movement was held in the Trades Hall on Tuesday evening Cr M. Silverstone (president) presided over a good attendance of members The organising report showed that four members had rejoined and eighi had been granted clearances to other unions on receiving full-time work since last meeting. Two members had died. The secretary's and president's actioi, tn calling a special meeting of the men dismissed from the City Council's works recently and also in making a grant of £1 to a case of distress, was endorsed. The president explained what had been done in getting the men placed back in work others regrouped, and the rest placed on sustenance in the meantime.
It was agreed to give a further donalion from the funds of £2 2s to the above-mentioned case of distress. The secretary was instructed to interview the men now working on the Sawyers' Bav job. A few c( % plaints were tabled, and the secretary agreed to interview the certifying officer in regard to these matters. The winners of the two 10s freegrocery orders were Messrs Wiescll and Blackie.
Two members were appointed to attend the gate at Carisbrook ground to check unemployed books. Two important notices ot motion were tabled to rescind previous resolutions carried.
the secretary reported that thtbranch was now afnliaed with thf New Zealand Federation of Labour and would be represented by two delegates on the Trades and Labour Council in Dunedin when the new organisation was formed
