THE HAIG MEMORIAL

WIDOW DISPLEASED WILL NOT ATTEND UNVEILING LONDON, June 16. (Received June 17, at 10 p.m.) When the national memorial to Earl Haig is unveiled at Whitehall toward the end of the year, the widow will not be present. "I do not like the statue," Lady Haig told the Daily Mail. "The horse is monstrous. They have also depicted my husband with a scroll in his hand. This is ridiculous as he always carried a map. lam sure I am acting as my husband would have wished. He would never have approved the statue."

This decision follows eight years of controversy about the design of the memorial.
