THE STEWART ISLAND PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH
TO THE EDITOR
Sir,—l would like if you will permit me to make an appeal through the correspondence columns of your paper on behalf of the Presbyterian Church in Stewart Island. Recently the Yacht Club here made an appeal which met with a very generous response from friends on the mainland, and we now wish to approach our friends for assistance. Our church here is a small body, and lately, through death and the removal of several members to the mainland, we have lost a sood many of our best supporters. In, previous years we have appealed' to a few friends, but wish to make a more widespread -ne. The community here is a small one. With the very poor fishing season and the reduced number of visitors, the year has been harder than usual. There are a great many of your readers who have spent very enjoyable times here who may be inclined to help us. We have to make this special effort each year. The greatest need we have is a suitable building .for our Sabbath school, which at present is held in an old, cold, damp building. We have a small sum in hand, but require more before we can build. This place has been called "the land of forgotten people," and in some ways it is so, as we are off the beaten track. We confidently appeal to our friends for assistance. "As much as ye have done it unto the least of these, ye have done it unto Me." Letters may be addressed to the undersigned or to Mr R. C. Hicks (session clerk) or Mr W. Oswald (treasurer), and we will gratefully acknowledge any contributions forwarded.—l am, etc., B. C. Galloway, Home Missionary. Halimoon Bay, June 16.
