THE STUDENT CHOIR

RECITAL ON MONDAY NIGHT Something unusual in the nature of choral entertainment can usually be expected at the periodic recitals of the Student Choir, composed of the pupils of Mr Ernest Drake, and the concert to be given in the Town Hall Concert Chamber on Monday is expected to prove no exception. With the material available it is only natural that this choir should have earned for itself a fine reputation during its short existence. Composed almost entirely of youthful singers of distinction, all trained in the same school of voice production, it follows that the choir's performances should be characterised by an exceptional measure of power and brilliance, allied with beauty of tone colour. Through these natural endowments and the ardent enthusiasm and team spirit of its members, it has won for itself the high regard of Dunedin music-lovers.

Monday's recital marks the third public appearance of the choir since its formation last year for-the purpose of contesting the Grand Choral Contest sponsored by the Dunedin Competitions Society, when it immediately commanded notice by giving a performance which earned for it the choral trophy and a permanent place in the musical life of Dunedin. With the increased verve and polish which spring from a longer association, the third recital, on Monday night, is expected to prove a further triumph for this group of singers.
