BARON VON NEURATH
A VISIT TO LONDON GUEST OF THE GOVERNMENT (British Official Wireless) RUGBY, June 15. (Received June 16, at 5.5 p.m.) It is announced that Baron von Neurath, German Minister for Foreign Affairs, will visit London on June 23 as an official guest of his Majesty’s Government. It is stated that no negotiations are under contemplation but it is hoped that the
visit will offer an opportunity for the exchange of views on international matters of common interest to the two countries, and particularly on the Spanish problem. There has been no chance for 18 months for contacts between Baron von Neurath and Mr Eden, although both in the interval have been in personal touch with the Foreign Ministers of other European Powers and visits have also been paid to Paris by Dr Schacht. A subject which will almost certainly come under review is the future of negotiations regarding a western pact, which has been the subject of diplomatic exchanges during recent months. The French Government has been informed of Baron von Neurath’s impending visit.
