PLUNKET SOCIETY APPEAL
DRAPERY STORES CO-OPERATE
In connection with the Karitane Hospital Rebuilding Fund, the local drapery stores have agreed to assist this worthy effort by selling special badges. At the recent Winter Show some thousands of these badges were disposed of at Is each. It is felt that the humanitarian work being carried out by the Plunket Society is so well and favourably known that all those who have occasion to visit any of the drapery stores within the next few days will willingly purchase one of these shilling badges. The Plunket Society, ot which Lady Sidey is president, finds it essential to' rebuild the hospital at Anderson’s Bay, and a fund of £20.000 is being built up for this purpose. The response to this appeal is distinctly encouraging, and it is confidently expected that those generously-minded citizens for which Dunedin is famed will make it their business to see that the list is fully subscribed without, undue delay. For the year ended March 31, 1936. (latest statistics) Plunket nurses visited 161,481 homes; 645,892 mothers and children visited Plunket rooms, and during that period just on 74.000 children were accorded professional assistance by Plunket nurses. It is interesting to note that from n very small beginning in Dunedin 30 years ago, the society has grown into an organisation of 68 brandies employing a total permanent Plunket nursing staff of 126 nurses and 108 trained Plunket nurses.
