THE IDEALS OF WOMANHOOD
TO THE EDITOR Sir,—May I intrude further upon your space to reply to “ Old Bill ”? To accuse the other fellow of having a nasty mind when he calls attention to an evil that needs rooting out is an ancient device which deceives no one. The weakness of “ Old Bill’s ” case is revealed by the use of it. The advice of the three wise monkeys is admirable for osti'iches, but not for intelligent humans. To meander complacently through life, benignly accepting everything as it is, is easy: but does not help in making the world a better place or in protecting those who need protection. I do not wish to act as a censor for anyone’s morals, but every citizen has a right—and a duty—to draw attention to things which affect the welfai'e of the community. To be called “ old-fashioned. ’’ etc., to-day is something of a compliment. It is an acknowledgment that one has a mind of one’s own and uses it, instead of approving, sheep-like, of every fresh innovation. All honour to “ Modern Girl ” for her courage in opening up the subject.—l cam. etc.. Modern Man.
