WAIKOUAITI Bowling; Club The president (Mr J. Patterson) was in the chair at the thirtieth annual meeting of the Waikouaiti Bowling Club on Thursday evening. In his opening address the chairman said tnat the season had been marred by wet weather. He expressed sincere appreciation of the work of the women members, for without their assistance the report and balance sheet would not have shown such an encouraging state of affairs. The Domain Board and its greenkeeper, Mr Tennct. had earned the thanks of the club. _ v
The meeting decided to invite women members to select one day in the week, when the green would be reserved for their exclusive use. Officers for the coming season were elected as follows:—President, Mr J. Patterson: vice-president, Mr J. A Townsend; auditor, Mr B. W. Fell; secretary, Mr Griffiths; delegate to Bowling Centre, Mr Hinton; greenkeeper, Mr Tennet; selectpr, Mr Davis; committee —President, vice-president, secretary: green supervisor, Mr B. W. Fell. A. and P. Show At the invitation of the Winter Show authorities a large party of senior scholars paid a visit to the Dunedin Winter Show on Friday. The children also visited the Roslyn Mills. Both visits were greatly enjoyed. Teachers and members of the committee accompanied the children. PALMERSTON Classes in Dramatic Art Under the auspices of the Women’s Institute, the Dramatic Club and the local branch of the W.D.F.U., Miss Elizabeth Loe, of the British Drama League, will conduct classes for one week. The classes cover an extensive field, comprising lectures on stage deportment, acting, mime, small property-making and production, together with rehearsals and criticisms of several short plays. The members of the societies responsible for Miss Loe’s invitation to Palmerston are eagerly looking forward to an instructive and interesting week’s education. TEMUKA Choirmaster Honoured Mr B. Hughes, who has been choirmaster of St. Peter’s Anglican Church, Temuka, for over 16 years, was met by members of the choir and vestrymen, and entertained at a social at the vicarage, at which Mrs Hughes was also present. Expressions of appreciation of the valuable services rendered by Mr Hughes during his long association with the choir were made by Mr H. Talbot, the organist, and Mr R. Heron. Mr L. V. Talbot extended to Mr Hughes the thanks of the vestry. The vicar (the Rev. L. A. Barnes) presented the guest with an attache case and a cigarette case, both being appropriately inscribed. Mr Hughes feeling acknowledged the gifts and expressed his regret at leaving the choir, which decision had been occasioned through ill-health and pressure of business. LAWRENCE Hockey The local Women's Hockey Club played a match against Waitahuna on Saturday, and suffered defeat by five goals to nil. School Excursion The combined Lawrence and Waitahuna Schools’ excursion to Dunedin on the King’s Birthday was well patronised, 207 passengers making the trip. The free admission to the Winter Show for scholars, a concession made by the committee of the society, was appreciated. Personal Mr A. R. Whitehead, teller on the staff of the Bank of New Zealand, is on holiday on the West Coast. Mr J. A. Bartlett, of the Mataura branch, is relieving him.
