OFFICIAL FORECAST CONDITIONS IMPROVING The following is the official weather forecast: — An intense anti-cyclone covers the Tasman Sea and extends on to New Zealand, but its centre is unusually far south. Indications are for:— Winds—Southerly to south-easterly and light to moderate, becoming variable over the South Island and later tending northerly. Seas. —New Zealand waters: Rather rough to rough between Kaikoura and East Cape and in the South Taranaki Bight, but gradually decreasing, elsewhere slight to moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea: Light to moderate southeast to easterly winds, freshening in the northern portion; seas slight to moderate, but- rising in the northern portion. Weather—Some passing showers at first between Cook Strait and East Cape, but improving, and elsewhere fair to fine; some sharp, frosts again to-night, but rather milder to-morrow. WEATHER IN DUNEOIN The weather yesterday was fine and mild, with bright sunshine for a considerable part of the day. The maximum temperature was 53 degrees and the barometer rose to 30.40 in. The same fine conditions prevailed during the evening, and at midnight the barometer remained steady at 30.40 in. One of the finest days for some weeks was experienced to-day, the weather being calm and cloudless. Warm sunshine prevailed, although the temperatures were crisp in the shade. After rising 'until noon the barometer steadied and at 5 o'clock registered 30.20 in. WELLINGTON, June 9. To-day was cold and raw, with a fresh south-easterly breeze and occasional light showers. The minimum temperature last night was 41.0 degrees, and the maximum to-day 49.2 degrees. CHRISTCHURCH> June 9> ' The weather was fine in Christchurch to-day, with considerable passing cloud and a few light showers. A light south-west wind was blowing.
