THE SOLAR EXPEDITIONS

CANTON ISLAND PARTIES SERVICE AT MONUMENT SYDNEY, June 1. A radio from the solar expedition says: All are well and becoming acclimatised. The heat and living conditions are not as severe as anticipated. We are using wreck timber for firewood in an improvised steel stove made from a mast, carried half a mile inland apparently by a hurricane. This afternoon for an hour and a-half the Americans broadcast a dedication service, a description of life here and perse nal messages from members. Both parties of sailors from both warships gathered before the Memorial Day Monument, a concrete pyramid four feet high. The service was conducted by Father M'Nally, and prayers by Captain Hellweg were dedicated to “All men of all ships and all men of good faith who have gone before us and made our progress possible.”
