RECORDINGS OF THE MONTH':' LOW SUNSHINE TOTAL A low total of sunshine and more rain than is usual characterised the month of May which ended yesterday. The rainfall totalled 3.35 inches, compared with 1.79 inches last May, 3.01 inches in May, 1935,, 2.84 inches in May, 1933, and 1.82 inches in May, 1932. The sunshine reached a total of 87 hours 10 minutes compared with 120 hours 42 minutes a year ago; and 101 ! hours 28 minutes in the preceding year. The rainfall was hot exceptional, being made .up of small daily falls. The greatest daily tote! was s6B Inches on May 23 and .60 inches on May 5. Rain fell on.. 14 days; and the average total for these days was .24 inches. There were 12 days on which no sunshine was recorded, the greatest period .i'of daily sunshine being eight hours, which was registered on May 12. From May 16 to May 24, inclusive, no sunshine was recorded at all. The highest temperature registered during .the month was 66 degrees On May B,Mind the lowest was 30 degrees on May 12.
