■♦ - A good attendance of members was present when A.D. Bro. Gillespie opened the meeting of Linden Lodge, No. 5. on Tuesday, May 18. District President Bro. Shepherd attended on his first official visit in his new position and received a warm welcome. Correspondence was received from Grand Lodge re members’ dues, and much discussion was heard on the subject. Sick .pay to several members was passed for payment, as was a donation to the King George V Memorial Fund, which all brothers agreed was a most worthy object. Matters dealing with the finance of the lodge were discussed, and the manner in which the brothers spoke showed what a keen interest was held in this direction. It was decided that the lodge should meet in the winter months at 7.30 p.m. Supper was taken during a recess, and later the toasts were giyen. after which D.P. Bro. Shepherd replied in a very efficient manner to that of D.P. At the close of the business a very enjoyable game of bowls took place, the members trying out the bowls for the first time and deciding that it was a very attractive form of entertainment. Being the half-yearly meeting of the lodge, the election of officers took place for the next term, and the following brethren were elected:—A.D., Bro. A. A. Isaacs, jun.; P.A., Bro. A. Gillespie; V.A.D., Bro. A. Fraser; M.C., Bro. J. Tyrrell; treasurer, Bro. R. Rushbridge (re-elected); A.D. bards, Bros. C. Adkins and E. Miller (re-elected): inside guard, Bro. H. M’Kenzie (re-elected); outside guard, Bro. Wiglev (re-elected); auditors, Bros. E. Sunderland and R. A. Morrison. The half-yearly meetings of Ivanhoe Lodge, No. 17, U.A.0.D., was held in the Manchester Unity Chambers, Stuart street, on Wednesday last, when A.D. Bro. .Gray was greeted with a good attendance of members and visitors. A small amount of correspondence was dealt with. One new member was proposed for initiation next lodge night. The bards reported on their visit to sick members, and, were thanked for same and sick pay and accounts were passed for payment. This being the night set apart for the election of officers the following brothers were elected to fill the respective offices:—A.D., Bro. L. N. Medlin; V.A., Bro. W. Brockie; treasurer, Bro. C. Wilson (re-elected); M.C., Bro. Anderson; 1.G., Bro. Driver (re-elected); 0.G., Bro. Mountney (re-elected); A.D.B.’s, Bros. Borrow and W. Gray (re-elected); V.A.B.’s, Bros. Vernon (re-elected); minute secretary, Bro. F. E. Reeves: pianist, Bro. Pellctt (re-elected); auditors, Bros. Cannon and Sinclair (re-elected). Bro. Sinclair reported on circular from Board of Management regarding closing of books on quarter night. The secretary was instructed to send a letter of congratulation to Bro. W. Graham. Treasurer Bro. Wilson spoke regarding the combined social, and D.P. Bro. Shepherd replied. The usual loyal toasts were duly honoured and received, and were responded to by D.P. Bro. Shepherd, of No. 1 District, and P.G.P. Bro. Jacobson, of All Nations Lodge.
