W.E.A.

WINTER SCHOOL A SOCIAL EVENING A social evening was held in the Allen Hall on Saturday in connection with the W.E.A. Winter School. Two dramatic sketches were presented, and. after supper, a dance was held There was only a small attendance. Both the sketches, though of highlycontrasting natures, were appropriate to the subject of '•Marriage and the Family," on which the lectures clurine the past week were based. The first presentation was an interlude from "The Apple Cart." by George Bernard Shaw. The scene was that in which the King and Orinthia discuss matrimony, their behaviour passing through a variety of moods to end in a most undignified climax The Shavian dialogue was delivered effectively by Miss Stella Maden, Mr Don French, and Mr J. A. Brailsford, The second presentation was a oneact play, " Cupid Rampant," by Percy Coory, a delightfully broad satire on the methods employed in Germany by the Nazis to bring back the days of large families. The sketch was given effectively by the players, and their enjoyment was successfully communicated to the audience. The following was the cast:—Unmarried female. Miss Shepherd; unmarried male. Mr G. Edwards; controller of the creche. Miss K. Knox; orderly, Mr N. Buchanan; sergeant registrar, Mr G. W. M'Kinnon.
