LOADING OF MEAT

BARGE FOR LIGHTERING WORK (Pei United Pmsf Association) 1 I AUCKLAND, May 29. A barge built by the Auckland llrm of Messrs Lowe and Son to the order of the New Zealand Refrigerating Company left Auckland today in tow of the motor ship Port Waikato for Wangariui to be used to convey meat from the company's works at Imlay to liners in the Wariganui roadstead. Built of kauri, the vessel is.7o feet long. One hold runs its full length, and is insulated for the carriage of frozen produce. The barge has been specially constructed for crossing the Wanganui River bar- and for lightering work. It has a steering- wheel and rudder, but will be towed when in use. The firm will commence immediately the construction of a sister vessel.
