ST. JOHN AMBULANCE

The weekly meeting of the Dunedin Division of the St. John Ambulance was held at headquarters, Moray place, on Tuesday evening, and this took the form of a special meeting, which was the occasion of the bi-annual competition for the J. C. White Cup. This proved to be one of the keenest competitions that has been held for this cup. The test was set by Corps-officer P. C. Wilkinson and was judged by 1 District-officer W. D. Pirrett. The test consisted of the treating of " a motor cyclist and pillion rider," who had a head-on collision with a motor car on a country road where there were no inhabitants and the nearest telephone three miles away. Both riders were " injured." The teams handled this "accident" in a most efficient manner, and the winning team consisted of Private* J. Wilson, J. Pears, P. M'Kinlay and W. Overton (who was in charge of the team). Presenting the cup, District-officer Pirrett remarked on the very good work he had seen, and how the competition work in general brought out the best in the men besides promoting keenness in the work. The Superintendent, D. Maclean, in replying and thanking the officers for their co-operation in this competition, stated that he proposed to match the winners of this cup at the next competition against the present holders and present the "champion of champions " with miniature silver cups.—(Applause.) He then spoke of District-officer Pirrett's fine record of service in the St. John movement and in appreciation of his past and present services to the division, asked Ambulance-officer E. Flawn to present to Mr Pirrett on behalf of the division a present suitably engraved. Superintendent Maclean then alluded to the fine service record of Corps-officer P. C. Wilkinson, and especially in his capacity as superintendent for the Dunedin Ambulance Division which rank he recently relinquished owing to his promotion to the corps staff, and asked Private W. Overton to present to Mr Wilkinson also a gift suitably engraved from his old division.
