KING GEORGE V MEMORIAL FUND
THE RESPONSE IN DUNEDIN APPEAL FOR GREATER SUPPORT The Mayor's Propaganda Committee —the Rev. E. T. Cox, Messrs Newman, R. Wilson, and Maurice Myers—met yesterday morning in the Town Hall, and decided to issue the following statement: — "Information received by wire from the northern cities show the state of the funds in those areas to be: Auckland, £ 16,200; v Wellington, £7243: Christchurch, £4667; Dunedin, £4OOO. "Throughout the long and honourable history of our province, we have taken pride in the solidity, wealth, and generosity of our people, but we have to recognise that, despite the fact that the northern centres are more populous and on this account will most assuredly exceed our total, the fact remains that to date, notwithstanding the worthiness of this Empire appeal, our figures are hardly worthy of our well-earned reputation. " To create interest in this fund during the few closing days of the appeal, we propose to publish daily the progressive totals of the main northern centres, together with our own advancing list of donations." DONATION OF £IOOO (Per United Press Association) WELLINGTON, May 28. A donation of £IOOO. to the King George V Memorial Fund has been received by the Acting Prime Minister (Mr P. Eraser) from the Stock and Station Agents' Association.
