Mr F. W. Wilson, of Dunedin, returned by the Niagara after an extended tour of England, America, and the Continent. Mr D. Jones, of Beaumont, and Mr C. Smaill, of Moa Flat, accompanied by their wives, left yesterday morning on a tour of America and the Islands. Dr W. D. Bathgate, medical superintendent of the Edinburgh Medical Mission Hospital, in Nazareth, arrived at Wellington yesterday by the Wanganella on a holiday visit to the Dominion. The general manager of the National Bank of Australasia, Ltd.. has received cabled advice that the board of directors of the bank has re-elected Sir James A. M. Elder chairman and Sir Frank Clarke vice-chairman for the ensuing year.

The Union Airways liner Korimako left the Taieri airport at ff.ls a.m. yesterday for Christchurch, Blenheim, and Palmerston North with Dr T. Z. Koo, Messrs J. Advice has been received from the secretary-general,St.Johns Gate, London, that his Majesty the rung has been pleased to sanction the appointment of Miss Joan Young Farquharson assistant secretary to the South Otago Hospital Board, as an officer (sister) of the Venerable Order of St. John of Jerusalem Miss Farquharson was born and educated in Dunedin, and has taken an active interest in the work of the St. John Ambulance Association.

Dr D G. M'Millan, M.P., returned last night from Central Otago, where he presided over sittings of the Committee of Inquiry into the maternity services of the Dominion. The remaining members of the committee stayed overnight at Palmerston, and will travel north to-dav. The committee will resume its sittings on the West Coast on June 22 Dr M'Millan will go to Wellington next week to commence work as chairman of the committee which is preparing the Government's national health insurance scheme.
