BAER DEFEATS FOORD A TECHNICAL KNOCK-OUT (United Press Association) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) LONDON, May 27. In a 12-round bout at Harringay Max Baer defeated Ben Foord in the ninth round. It was- a smashing victory, in which the South African's rushing tactics led to his downfall against the American's ringcraft and vigour. Foord attacked furiously from the start. Baer, smilingly side-stepping, had the South African groggy in the second round as a result of terrific rights to the iaw Thereafter Baer piled or. points Foord. from the fifth round, stood an amazing amount of punishment unflinchingly He was down for eight twice in the ninth round, and as he rose a second time Baer drove in two ferocious punches and sent Foord hurtling against the ropes, whence he rebounded and collapsed. His second attempted to throw in the towel which was caught in the ropes Foord was making an effort to rise when the referee accepted his retirement and the timekeeper announced that he had counted out Foord, who was thus beaten on >- technical knockout.
