General Goering, Germany's showy Air Minister, shares with the Ford car and "La Petite Audrey " the honour of inspiring the world's largest supply of jokes. It is impossible to meet a German now who does not produce at least one fresh addition to the Goering collection. Only last week a Berlin financier said to me (writes "Atticus," in the Sunday Times): "Did you know that we are going to suffer an acute petrol shortage next week? General Goering has ordered all his uniforms to be cleaned." When my friend had recovered from that one he told me about Goering's housekeeper screaming that the bath was running over and flooding the house. " Quick! " cried Goering, "my admiral's uniform!
