LAWRENCE

Borough Amalgamation A meeting of representatives of the Lawrence, Roxburgh and Tapanui boroughs was held at Rae's Junction on Thursday last. Present were: Crs T. Waigth and H. A". Tamblyn (Roxburgh), Crs Martin and Pitt (Lawrence) and Mr J, Vercoe (Mayor of Tapanui). After a general discussion Cr Waigth moved and Cr Martin seconded and it was carried unanimously: "That the boroughs of Roxburgh, Lawrence and Tapanui are strongly opposed to amalgamation, and enter an emphatic protest against the proposal until such time as a referendum of the ratepayers has been taken." It was further decided that it was imperative that a petition asking that a referendum of ratepayers be taken on the proposal be circulated in each borough. A letter containing a report of the meeting was forwarded to the Minister of Internal Affairs (Mr W. E. Parry).
