UMPIRES' ASSOCIATION A meeting of the Otago Hockey Umpires' Association was held last evening in the Y.M.C.A., Mr H. W. Tyrrell occupying the chair. The Otago Women's Hockey Association wrote asking for umpires for the seven-a-side competition to be held on June 9. —Several umpires advised that they would be available and the chairman asked that all who could give their services should do so. In connection with the ordering off of two players in recent matches, the decision of the Otago Hockey Association was received and it was stated that in future more severe penalties would be imposed for similar offences.

At the conclusion of the meeting, players, including a number of ladies, were admitted, and an interesting talk on the offside rule was given by Mr T. H. Mulholland. The various differences between the application of the rule to men's and women's hockey were discussed at some length, the speaker pointing out the matters which would require special attention on the part of men's umpires who would be officiating at the women's tournament. There was a general discussion on the subject later, and in response to questions, Mr Mulholland gave interpretations of other rules.
