NEW ZEALAND-MADE WEEK

RETAILERS RISE TO THE OCCASION The people of Dunedin have not been slow to inspect the comprehensive displays of New Zealand-made goods which are to be seen in some 500 retailers' windows at present. A fine spirit of co-operation has marked the whole of the operations in connection with the task of placing before the public, in an attractive and interesting way, the extent to which the manufacturing industries are prepared and equipped to cater for the demands of the Dominion. The manufacturers have placed materials and, in some cases, machinery in the form of working exhibits at the disposal of the shopkeepers, and these retailers in turn have risen to the occasion by entering wholeheartedly into the job of displaying New Zealand-made goods in the best possible way. A general view of the work achieved reveals the fact that retailers appreciate the benefit to be obtained in a campaign that advances the cause of New Zealandmade goods. The fact that the displays are not confined to Otago-made goods is a feature worthy of mention.

Yesterday morning Mr James Hogg addressed the pupils of King's High School and outlined to them the advantages to be gained by giving preference to goods made in this Dominion. Mr Hogg stressed the point that manufacturing industry looked to youth of the present day as operatives and executives of to-morrow, and everything they did to influence the acceptance of New Zealand-made goods would react to their advantage in some way or another.

Through the courtesy of the Tramways Department, a special illuminated tramcar will travel through the main streets this evening, and at 7.30 a radio talk will be presented from 4YA.
