CONTRIBUTION TO DEFENCE THE PROPOSED CONCESSIONS LONDON, May 25. The Chancellor's "tax concessions " met with a cool reception in the city, with the result that markets opened quietly. Most shares are lower. The Australian Associated Press s City editor finds that members of the House of Commons and representative business and finance men have quickly come to the conclusion that the amended tax is little better than the original one, the most sober and influential members declaring that the Chancellor would be unwise to go on with the tax at all. A meeting of representatives of the shipbuilding industry has already expressed disappointment and voiced the opinion that even the amended tax would act as a deterrent to enterprise. The Mining Association voiced similar discontent.
