BURNSIDE STOCK SALE

GOOD FAT SHEEP YARDING FAT CATTLE The entry in the fat cattle section numbered 365, compared with 500 at the previous market. The quality of the offering was disappointing, a big proportion of the entry being confined to cows and heifers. The bullocks forward, which made a lesser proportion than usual, comprised principally medium descriptions, with only odd consignments of heavy grades. The latter class received the most attention, and prices for prime heavy bullocks appreciated from 15s to 20s per head. Good medium quality bullocks showed an advance of about 10s, but light and unfinished sorts showed no material alteration. There were a few choice consignments of cows and heifers, but generally this class was j. poor selection; owing to the oversupply of these grades, slack competition was in evidence, and with odd exceptions, late parity was not in many cases exceeded. Values were: Extra prime heavy bullocks sold to £ls 12s 6d; prime heavy from £l2 7s 6d to £l3 12s 6cl; medium from £8 17s 6d to £lO 12s 6d; light down to £5 12s 6d. The quality ; throughout was excellent, the display in the ewe section being a notable one, with heavy sheep predominating. The wethers forward, which made up only a small percentage of the offering, com-px-ised principally heavy grades, with a few trucks of medium sorts, finewoolled sheep being more in evidence in the latter consignments. Prime heavy wethers sold at full late rates, while heavy owes, which were in over supply, declined in value by Is 6d to 2s per head. Medium wethers sold at Is cheaper rates, while suitable export sheep idealised full schedule rates, although there was a dearth of this class on offer. Country butchers and graziers were operating throughout, and the sale maintained a fairly level basis with values inclined to show an casing tendency over the concluding races. Values were: Extra prime heavy wethers sold to 41s 6d; prime heavy from 33s to 36s 6d; medium, from 27s to 31s; light, from 22s to 24s 6d; prime heavy young ewes sold at 30s; prime heavy, to 275; heavy, from 23s to 255; •medium, from 18s to 21s; light, down to 15s 6d.
