OFFICIAL FORECAST MAINLY FAIR TO FINE The following is the official weather forecast:—

An anti-cyclone is passing the Dominion with its centre to the north. Pressure is still low east of the South Island and a rather deep depression is located over the south-west Tasman Sea and is moving slowly eastwards. Indications are for:

Winds—Light to moderate southwesterly to westerly, veering to northwesterlies and freshening about and south of Cook Strait, later changing again to southerly in the southern portion of the South Island.

Seas—New Zealand Waters—Slight to moderate but rising somewhat south of Cape Egmont and about Cook and Foveaux Straits. Eastern Tasman Sea —North-westerly winds, moderate in the northern portion with moderate seas, fresh to strong in the southern portion and backing later to souther--lies in the far south with rather rough seas. Weather—Mainly fair to fine at first, some scattered showers probable, however, in western coastal areas and later unsettled conditions and rain developing from Taranaki southwards; temperatures rather mild. WEATHER IN DUNEDIN The weather yesterday was fine, but cool, with sunshine throughout the greater part of the day. There was a frost in some parts of the city in the early, morning, and temperatures were cold, the maximum being 57 degrees. A slight breeze blew from the southeast. The barometer fell slightly at mid-day, but remained steady at 30.00 inches in the evening. Fine clear weather prevailed here today. There was a moderate westerly wind and cool temperatures. The evening was fine, and the barometer was rising steadily from 30.00 inches. WELLINGTON, May 25. The weather was fine and pleasant to-day—calm in the morning, with a gentle southerly breeze during the afternoon. The minimum temperature last night was 41.9 deg, and the maximum to-day 53.1 deg. CHRISTCHURCH, May 25. The weather was fine and sunny in Christchurch to-day, with a light south-west wind. The maximum temperature was 50.5 deg. The barometer registered 29.91 in at- 5 p.m., and was rising.
