USED MOTOR CARS

IMPORTATION INCREASING PROHIBITION SOUGHT (Peb United Press Association) WELLINGTON, April 9. The Acting Minister of Customs (Mr M, Fagan) stated to-day that strong representations had been made to the Government respecting the importation of used motor cars. It had been stated that such vehicles were being imported in increasing quantities and were disturbing the business of established motor dealers and prejudicing the work of bona fide mptor car assemblers. Requests had been made that the importation of used or second-hand cars should be prohibited. "The Government is conducting a thorough investigation,” said Mr Fagan, “ and it should be distinctly understood by importers of used vehicles that, if it is found necessary in the interests of local manufacturers and traders and the public generally to impose restriction, the Government reserves the right to take such steps as will make any such restriction immediately effective.”
