(Per United Press Association) AUCKLAND, Mar. 10. The cruiser Achilles, from Picton, called at Auckland this morning and landed a rating, Alexander Churchill, suffering from appendicitis, who was sent to the hospital. His condition is fairly serious. The Achilles then resumed its cruise to the Bay of Islands. The showroom of the Broadway Motor Cycle Company, in Khyber Pass, was entered by burglars last night. They prised open the window of the manager’s office and, finding a key in the general office drawer, opened the safe and stole £lO. A conference of the majority of trades unions in Auckland decided unanimously to support a unity conference to be held in Wellington on March 23. A draft constitution was approved with minor amendments and the opinion was expressed that all sections of the movement should participate in the conference. MARTON, Mar. 10. For being intoxicated while in charge of a motor vehicle Arthur J. S. Rawson appeared before Mr R. M. Watson, S.M., to-day. He was fined £lO and costs and his driver’s licence was cancelled and he was prohibited from obtaining another for two years. On a further charge of a breach of his prohibition order he was fined £1 and costs. The accused was allowed one month in which to pay. NAPIER, Mar, 10. A Napier waterside worker, Regalado Rells. who was recently successful in a Supreme Court claim for damages for injuries, has been missing from his home since Monday. It was presumed that he had gone to Wellington, but inquiries there have been unsuccessful. He left home without leaving a message for his family. Rells was said to have worried over the litigation as the judge reserved his decision after an appeal ■ had been lodged by the defendants, the New Zealand Shipping Company, Ltd. WELLINGTON, Mar. 10, In a statement issued through the Transport Department to-day the Minister of Transport has decided that motor cycle dealers may be approved for the purpose of issuing warrants of fitness for motor cycles. No motor cycle dealer will, however, be approved for this purpose unless as a result of an inspection by an officer of the Transport Department his premises are found to be suitable for testing motor cycles. Any motor cycle dealer desiring to be authorised to issue warrants of fitness for motor cycles is required to forward an application for an inspection of his premises together with a fee of £1 to the Commissioner of Transport Wellington.
