UNIVERSITY SWIMMING
THREE RECORDS BROKEN FINE PERFORMANCE BY DAVIES Swimming of a high standard was witnessed at the Municipal Baths last night when the University Swimming Championships were held. The attendance was the best seen at this carnival for some years. D. H. Symes (Canterbury), J. C. W. Davies and J. H. Neville (Taranaki), all well-known figures in swimming circles, put up excellent performances, Symes (national 220 Yards Freestyle champion) breaking his own University records for the 100 Yards and 220 Yards Freestyle. The highlight of the meeting was provided by J. C. W. Davies, who not only broke the University record comfortably in the 220 Yards Breaststroke, but also bettered H. Geddes s Otago record by 3sec. Considering the fact that L. Smith did only 3mm 6sec for this distance at the National Championships last year, Davies s time (3mm 10sec) was a sterling effort, as he won easilv Misses E. Brown, J. Morice and J. Eastgate were the outstanding competitors in the women’s events. Miss G.
