DUNEDIN BURNS CLUB
MONTHLY CONCERT At the monthly concert of the Dunedin Burns Club, held last night, Mr W. H. M'Kenzie was chairman, and there was a large audience present. Mr M'Kenzie said that members regretted that the annual Burns anniversary concert had not been held last month, but the committee had cooperated with the Health Department in cancelling the event. An attractive programme arranged and conducted by Mr Alfred Walmsley was well appreciated by those present, and many of the selections were given excellent renderings. The programme was as follows: Selection, Piper G. Crighton; part songs—(a) “Hail to the Chief,” (b) “Mary,” the Dunedin Choral Society's Madrigal Club; solo, “ Bonnie Dundee,” Mr Frank Stewart; elocutionary item, Miss Norma Brown; solo and chorus, “The Auld Scotch Sangs,” Miss Nettie Bauld; convivial songs, the men (soloist, Mr E. Fish); solo, “Hush-a-bye Birdie,” Miss Sara Couper; violin solo, selected. Mrs Evan Tuckwell; solo, “ Leezie Lindsay,” Miss Agnes Hill; part song, “Bonnie Wee Thing,” the choir; solo, “The Battle of Stirling,” Mr W. E. Snow; elocutionary item. Miss Molly Baker; solo. “Angus Macdonald,” Miss Betty Pocock; solo, “ Herding Song,” Mr Alfred Walmsley; part songs—(a) “Celtic Hymn” (Out going of the Boats); (b) “The Wee Cooper of Fife,” the choir. The accompanists were Mrs Alfred Walmsley and Miss Mavis Macdonald. At the conclusion of the concert a dance was held.
