BEGGING LETTERS

LORD NUFFIELD PESTERED FIVE THOUSAND RECEIVED MELBOURNE, Feb. 8. Lord Nuffield, on his arrival in Melbourne, said that, although he liked Australia, he would not visit it* again if the people continued to send him letters begging for financial assistance. He had already received about 5000 begging letters. “ I am arranging my benefactions tor each State in proportion ,to the population,” he said He added that Ibe gifts would be distributed only after consultation with the proper authorities.
