THE DUKE OF WINDSOR

QUESTION OF DIRECT PENSION

MEMBERS NOT FAVOURABLE LONDON, Feb. 5. The Manchester Guardian’s political correspondent says the Government’s soundings of members of the House of Commons revealed disinclination to vote the Duke of Windsor a direct pension. This does not imply that no recognition of the exKing should be provided for, but the belief- that it could be provided out of the present King’s existing Civil List.

INDIAN PRINCES’ AFFECTION

LONDON, Feb, 5,

The British United Press Association’s New Delhi correspondent says that political officers in various States told the princes that their offer to provide the Duke of Windsor with resources as a token of their affection was unnecessary. VISIT FROM SISTER LONDON, Feb. 5. (Received Feb. 7, at 5.5 p.m.) The Princess Royal will leave on February 6 for Enzesfeld on a visit to the Duke of Windsor. The Daily Telegraph says it is authoritatively stated that the report that the Duke of Windsor will come to England for the Order of the Garter service in St. Georges Chapel at Windsor on June 14 is without foundation. The Duke, as far as is known, does not contemplate returning to England for some time. MRS SIMPSON’S MOVEMENTS LONDON, Feb. 6. (Received Feb. 7, at 10 p.m.) The Star says Mrs Simpson is expected in Vienna on April 28, and rumours are being revived that she will marry the Duke of Windsor in May, but no request has been made to the Church of England authorities in Vienna for permission to hold the ceremony at the British Legation Church. Reports that the marriage will be held in Vienna at the end of April are denied. Mr Herman Rogers told the Star that no plans had yet been made, and it was impossible to say whether anything would be settled in the near future. The Australian Associated Press was informed that there is a wellfounded conviction that, if there is a marriage, it will be a civil ceremony at a register office.
