THE SINGAPORE "BATTLE"

ATTACKING VESSELS SIGHTED SINGAPORE, Feb. 2. After an all-day search air patrols located three destroyers heading north-west, and an unknown number of submarines eastward, which dived as soon as sighted. The aircraft carrier Hermes, the most important attacking vessel, has not yet been located. ATTACKERS BEATEN OFF SHANGHAI. Feb. 3. (Received Feb. 3, at 10 p.m.) During the night naval patrols and coast defences were actively engaged in beating off " Blueland '" destroyers which attacked the eastern entrance and attempted to land small parties. The judges determined that two destroyers were put, out of action and the landing attempts driven off with heavy losses. There have been no air attacks on Singapore yet, but the aircraft carrier has been sighted to east-nor'-east.
