PERRY AND VINES
RETURN MATCH ARRANGED CONFLICTING VIEWS ON FORM (United Press Association) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) NEW YOR£, Jan. ,7. (Received Jan. 8, at 7 p.m.) The promoters of the Perry-Vines match have announced that they are planning a return match here if a suitable date is available at Madison Square Garden. Both players are said to favour the proposal, and another huge crowd is expected, since sports writers have been expressing conflicting views whether Vines was at his best. It is reported that he is suffering from nervous indigestion and a cold. It is pointed out that Perry is suffering from the same maladies, but several writers insist that Vines was most affected and had a fever of 102 deg. after, the match. Vines, in an interview, said: “ 1 am anxious to meet Perry again at New York. I am not offering any alibi. He is a wonderful player, but I feel I can make a better showing I would like to do it here rather than elsewhere. I was very nervqus during the match, but Perry did not seem to have any nerves.’’ Perry, in an interview, said: “I want to express my appreciation of the way in which the crowd treated me I was very nervous before the match, but the ceremony of the band playing " God Save the King.” and the raising of the British flag did something to me which changed my attitude and was a big factor in my victory. I expect Vines to win his share of our matches on the tour.”
