“SUICIDE CLUB”
ROMANTIC ADVENTURE FILM
The atmosphere of London in the Victorian era is brought to the screen very effectively in "Suicide Club,", which will commence its Dunedin season at the Empire Theatre to-day. Based on'the thrilling series of stpries by Robert Louis Stevenson, the film, reflecting the period of the Continent in the early eighties, deals with the adventures of a handsome prince who for reasons of State is commanded to marry the princess of a neighbouring kingdom. The prince objects to having his bride chosen for him, and the princess also objects emphatically, to the arrangement, and escapes to Lohdon just when the prince, is ordered there •to " cool down." Oh the boat the two meet and become mutually imr pressed. In fact, the princess decides to keep track of the Just when everything appears to be shaping satisfactorily the pair become involved in the activities of a sinister organisaton known as the Suicide Club the president, of which/is an anarchist, exiled by the prince's father and keen on revenge. However, the adventurous nrince outwits his enemy. Debonair Robert Montgomery, with the addition of side whiskers, has the part of the wayward prince, and the honours are shared with him by Rosalind Russell, who is beautiful in both face and speech. She repeats her success in "Under Two Flags," and establishes Herself in the front rank of screen actresses. Frank Morgan also gives an admirable performance as the sturdy henchman and bodyguard of the prince, and others in the cast are Louis Hayward, Reginald Owen, E. E. Clive, and .Robert Greig. \. "
