Bombers will always beat battleships, says General Milch, German Under-secretary for Air, who is now in Rome, in an interview with the Italian paper Via Dell’ Aria. “Aeroplanes are the strongest arm, and can attack when and how they please,” he adds. “If used with intelligence and precision, their success against fleets and naval bases is beyond discussion. Moreover, no. fighter aeroplanes now in existence can face modern bombers like the Italian Savoia 79 or the Fiat B.R. 20. Still less can they face the lighter and faster bombers now being made.”
