BETTING SYSTEMS

ro THE EDITOfI

Sir.—The comparisons made by me of the totalisator turnover at the race meetings held in New Zealand on Mondav last were, I consider, perfectly lair. As a matter of fact, Mr Samson is misleading when he says that I

compared three small South Island meetings (Oamaru, Southland, and Canterbury Park) with the big North Island clubs (Auckland, Hawke’s Bay, Wairarapa. Stratford, and Marton), for the reason, that the three first-named clubs had larger turnovers than some of the northern clubs. Mr Samson’s comparisons are not convincing, and even the executive of the Forbury Park Trotting Club, of which Mr Samson, is a member, decided only by 7 votes to 5 to continue the 75-25, and the place system. Why challenge one to come out into the open and give my name and address? My argument is just as valuable or weak over a nom de plume' as over my own name. I claim to have as long and intimate knowledge of betting systems as Mr Samson, and to have had more opportunity of obtaining other people’s opinions on the existing system than he has had. I know that Mr Samson is an owner, and that he is keenly interested in the sport, but surely he has no right to claim that he is the sole judge of what is the better betting system for the punters of the Dominion? In the meantime I have yet to be convinced that the Forbury Park Trotting Club’s system—7s-25 and place —is better . than the old 75-25 system and no place betting.—l am, etc., Small Punter.
