The weather yesterday morning was fine and warm, with a slight breeze from the north-east. Rain commenced to fall in the afternoon, and throughout the evening it rained steadily. The barometer fell sharplv to 29.20 in.

There was practically no wind. The minimum temperature last night was 57,0 degrees and the maximum today 66.1 degrees. CHRISTCHURCH, Jan 5.

The weather to-day was overcast and showery, with a fresh easterly breeze. The maximum temperature was 61.3 degrees. The barometer fell rapidly to 29.32 in.
